An unforgettable night of blues, storytelling, and soul. Red Dress & the Sugarman is a dark and smoky cabaret, written and performed by Marisa Quigley. A tale of enchantment, entrapment, and despair.
Heavily inspired by the succulent imagery and word-smithery of Tom Waits’ lyrics and poetry, Red Dress & the Sugarman pays homage to his evocative and inimitable style. Complete with a 4-piece band and sensuous harmonies, this is a captivating hour of breath-taking music and broken dreams.
The show will be followed with a set of Marisa’s original material, also accompanied by the band.
Marisa was awarded Female Vocalist of the Year at the 2007 Australian Blues Music Awards and has performed at many of Australia’s premier blues & roots festivals including Bluesfest in Byron, the Port Fairy Folk Festival, and the Melbourne International Blues & Music Festival. She has performed with Ash Grunwald and Xavier Rudd and supported Mia Dyson, Nick Barker, and Neil Murray. She really loves Tom Waits.
