The interpretive walk spans approximately 2km along the Koonwarra to Meeniyan section of the Great Southern Rail Trail.

This stretch of Trail is well‑known for its environmental and geological importance, featuring the Tarwin River, rich wetland habitats, diverse flora and fauna, and the renowned Koonwarra fossil beds, which hold internationally significant specimens such as the giant flea fossil.

Along the walk you can now:

  • Learn about the Strzelecki Gum.
  • Discover the benefits of wetlands.
  • Explore the story of the Koonwarra fossil beds.
  • Scan the QR codes for extra information; and
  • Make sure you don’t miss the frog and bird signs—scan the QR codes to hear local species.
