Brian Chapman & friends (Violinist Susan Pierotti and Cellist Rosanne Hunt) perform this blockbuster program, presenting piano trios by three very different Russian composers.
Opening with the Early-Romantic elegance of Glinka’s charming Trio Pathétique in D minor, the mood changes drastically for Shostakovich’s searingly powerful Trio No.2 in E minor, Op.67 inspired by the horror and tragedy of the Second World War and dedicated to his suddenly deceased mentor. After Interval the concert concludes with the Late-Romantic passion and drama of Tchaikovsky’s monumental Trio in A minor, Op.50, dedicated to the memory of his friend, the pianist Nikolai Rubinstein.
