Foster Flora Reserves: Wander through history and nature as you explore trails that honour Foster’s gold rush heritage. Many walks pass by the remnants of long-abandoned Stockyard Creek mines. Wildflowers flourish along these tracks, offering a striking contrast to the region’s historical relics.
Cape Liptrap Coastal Park: This coastal haven boasts a stunning mix of Cambrian rocks and sandy terrain, nurturing around 270 species of flowering plants, 27 species of native orchids and several threatened flora and fauna species. Top Wildflower Walks here include:
Wilsons Promontory National Park: Nature walks here offer immersive experiences into lush forests, coastal heaths, and mountainous landscapes—each teeming with colourful blooms and unique wildlife. A true biodiversity hotspot.
Scenic Trails
Get active in the spring sunshine:
- Great Southern Rail Trail – Stretching between Nyora and Yarram, it offers coastal views, lush farmland, and quaint towns.
- Grand Ridge Rail Trail, Mirboo North to Boolarra. Perfect for walking or biking through forested terrain.
- Venus Bay – Tarwin Lower – Walk or ride 5km between the townships of Tarwin Lower and Venus Bay on a compacted fine gravel pathway that follows the banks of the Tarwin River.
- Roy Henderson Path, Sandy Point. Starting at the beach end of Manuka Street, the Roy Henderson Path passes through a range of coastal vegetation before emerging at the edge of Shallow Inlet.
- Van Cleef Reserve – Venus Bay – Perfect for families and nature lovers, this centrally located reserve features a selection of short walking tracks with wildlife installations and a playground.
